What do these fieldnotes let us see?
A programme listing can tell us what its organisers made possible. It cannot tell us who felt welcome, who returned or what changed. Begin with the August briefing, choose one pattern and keep the original fieldnotes beside the interpretation.
QUESTION FOR THE ROOM
Which observation belongs in this decision—and where does it stop?
- Exercise
- Choose two fieldnotes that sharpen the same question. Read the source, say what it describes, then mark what is still inference. If the source is an event listing, call it an event listing; do not turn it into a participant story.
- Expected output
- A selected evidence pair, source description and explicit claim boundary.
- Presenter notes
- Keep the source open while you discuss it. If the record cannot distinguish observation from interpretation, return to the fieldnote.
